§3.9 What sensors cannot do

Every sensor has blind spots — and an opponent plans their activities exactly inside them.

Open §3.9 in the academy

SensorBlind spotHow an opponent uses it
OpticalNight, cloud, between two passesActivity at night or under cloud; covering up just before a known pass
InfraredLittle contrast at equal temperaturesCold storage, heat-reducing nets
SARHard to interpret; metal decoysInflatable or metal dummy vehicles, corner reflectors
SIGINTSees nothing that does not transmitRadio silence (EMCON), cable links, short transmissions
AllA satellite in LEO is not a camera that watches constantlyCalculating pass times and planning around them
Key point

That is why analysts combine sensors: SAR for "is something there", optical for "what is it", SIGINT for "is it transmitting", and repeated images for "is it changing". No single satellite gives the whole picture on its own.
